Oakley presents its new model of glasses used by Mark Cavendish; company calls it “Unforgettable Glasses”

Oakley has launched new glasses worn by Mark Cavendish, which the brand has dubbed its “unforgettable glasses” through a fun marketing strategy, to highlight the qualities of its Sphaera and Bisphaera models: low weight and wide field of vision.

Oakley hasn’t specified the weight of either of the two new models, but it does claim that its frames provide “a nearly weightless feel” while offering “the most extended field of vision yet,” which is why supposedly “you won’t even remember that is using them.”

Development and applications of new glasses

The new glasses have been developed for a variety of sports, including golf and athletics, with Oakley targeting the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. The Sphaera will be the model used by cyclists, with the Bisphaera, a dual-lens model, being more intended for casual use.

Mark Cavendish, winner of 34 Tour de France stages, played an important role in the launch of the Sphaera, but it is unlikely that he will use this model in sprints, given that Oakley’s Kato model is still the most suitable for cycling.

Glasses could become a key part of Olympic gold

However, French Mountain Bike XCO champion Loana Lecomte has hinted that glasses could be part of her goal of winning Olympic gold in Paris this summer. The French athlete said solid peripheral vision is critical to performing at her best, especially in close competition where a full field of vision is essential to winning.

“The Sphaera’s sleek design with its wide lens helps me maintain confidence and composure on the course.” Sphaera glasses are made from Oakley’s O-matter frame material, which features a front vent for cooling, nose pads, and Unobtainium ear supports for better grip.

The model also has a cut at the head of the arms, different from other cycling models. The frames are paired with Oakley’s Prizm lens technology, designed to highlight details through color and contrast.
