A typical stage of a classic race, with a breakaway early on involving 31 cyclists. Remco Evenepoel was the leader in the General Classification, trailing Sepp Kuss by almost 28 minutes. The peloton didn’t oppose the breakaway, already predicting its success from the beginning.
This breakaway gradually dissolved into small groups as the climbs presented themselves until only 5 cyclists remained in the main group. Pelayo Sánchez, Lennert Van Eetvelt, Wout Poels, Marc Soler, and Remco Evenepoel were in this group.
In the sprint, Wout Poels (Bahrain Victorious) beat Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quickstep) and won the 20th stage of the Vuelta a España!! Pelayo Sánchez (Burgos BH) finished in 3rd place.

In the main group, which arrived more than 10 minutes after the front-runners, all those interested in the General Classification finished together, with no differences, thereby declaring Sepp Kuss as the virtual winner of the Vuelta a España 2023.
