The 2024 season is upon us and BORA-hansgrohe revealed its plans, including training for the Tour de France, during a presentation last Wednesday in Mallorca. Naturally, there was special attention to the controversial 9th stage of the French competition.
Sports Director cast gregarious for the controversial stage
Rolf Aldag, the team’s Sporting Director, stated that Danny Van Poppel will play a crucial role in the team during the Tour, especially around Primoz Roglic.
“We need support on the plan, but also in the gravel stage” (9th stage), said Aldag. “We take this step very seriously, it will be incredibly unpredictable.” In addition to Van Poppel, Nico Denz was also included in the Tour de France team for this reason.
“With someone like Danny, Primoz doesn’t have to think too much about his positioning. This is important because this way we keep the stress level as low as possible”, added Aldag.
So Van Poppel’s leadership qualities should be used to guide Primoz Roglic through the Tour de France in the best possible way.

“We had a period of Mark Renshaw, a period of Michael Mørkøv and now Danny is the best leader in the world. Of course, we also need to use these qualities very well if we want to win the Tour with Primoz. That’s why we opted for a balanced plan”, concluded Rolf Aldag.
