Primoz Roglic secured victory in the third stage of Vuelta a Burgos. The Slovenian cyclist from Team Jumbo-Visma emerged victorious in a sprint finish at the end of a challenging stage, leading a group of four standout competitors. Aleksandr Vlasov secured second place, followed by Adam Yates in third, while the notably resilient Damien Howson surprised by clinching fourth position. Alongside the stage win, Roglic has taken over the top spot in the general classification of the competition.
The decisive point of the third stage of Vuelta a Burgos was the Picón Blanco ascent (7.8 km at 9%). From the summit of this climb – the highest point of the race and a Burgos Vuelta classic – there were still 36 km left to race. Following the descent, the Alto de Bocos (2.2 km at 5.5%) awaited just before the finish line, after which the stage winner in Villarcayo would be known.
Initially, Yates took the lead in the final sprint, but Roglic overtook with relative ease. The Slovenian secured the stage victory – ahead of Vlasov and Yates – and claimed the leader’s jersey from his teammate Átila Valter.
