Portuguese cyclist abandons Vuelta a España after collarbone fracture

The fourth stage of the Vuelta a España resulted in several withdrawals due to crashes. Ruben Guerreiro, along with Kobe Goossens and Bryan Coquard, will not continue in the fifth stage. The Portuguese cyclist from Movistar fractured his left collarbone in a fall.

Guerreiro was also involved in the crash in the final kilometers of the fourth stage to Tarragona, outside the last three kilometers zone. The Portuguese climber managed to reach the finish line after the fall, finishing in 170th place, just under seven minutes behind the stage winner, but he needed to go to the hospital for examinations.

At the hospital, doctors delivered the unfortunate news: Guerreiro has suffered a fracture in his left collarbone. The 29-year-old rider must therefore prematurely abandon the Vuelta a España after only 4 stages.
