The musical group Suakai recorded a song with cyclist Mikel Landa, where the music follows the rhythm of the cyclist’s heartbeats as he pedals on his trainer.
The “video single,” titled ‘Focus,’ was released on January 1 and has garnered over 100,000 views on Instagram.
It begins with four Suakai musicians (including co-founders Claudia Osés and Iván Carmona on violin and cello, respectively) performing the music while Mikel Landa is seen wearing his Soudal Quick-Step jersey for the first time and cycling on his new bike.
Merge music and heartbeat
The idea is to merge music that evolves to the rhythm of a heartbeat, starting softly as Landa registers 72 beats on his heart rate monitor, and finishing as the cyclist pedals faster.
Iván Carmona explained: “For us, music and emotions are directly related, and what symbolizes emotions better than a heart? It’s something we all have and that comes from within us, and the same goes for music: it arises from the inside, directly from the heart. It has been a great challenge to create a composition to the rhythm of the heart.”
