Cyclist Mathieu van der Poel, after the Cyclocross World Championship, decided to permanently leave the sport this season and focus entirely on the spring classics. As is customary, he chose the Spanish city of Calpe to train, where, according to him, conditions are much better than in the Netherlands or Belgium.
Intense training accompanied by Artem Shcherbyna
During an intense training session, Mathieu van der Poel was joined by Ukrainian YouTuber Artem Shcherbyna. The amateur cyclist, who is famous in the region for following elite athletes during their training, joined Van der Poel on the legendary climb of the Coll de Rates. Shcherbyna’s other appearances
Artem Shcherbyna already has a history of following other professional cyclists in their training. Last year, he unexpectedly appeared in former world champion Remco Evenepoel’s training. After a few minutes, Evenepoel showed irritation, making the Youtuber stop following him. Furthermore, a few days before the Volta ao Algarve, Shcherbyna trained again with the current Belgian champion.

In an interview after the incident, Shcherbyna asked: “How many times do you get the chance to ride Evenepoel’s wheel?” This episode once again proved the amateur cyclist’s audacity in challenging the world champions, with the aim of getting views on his videos.
