Lidl-Trek presents new equipment to improve aerodynamics without using a wind tunnel

Lidl-Trek has established a strategic partnership with the company specializing in aerodynamic equipment Aerosensor, with the aim of improving cyclists’ aerodynamics.

Search for aerodynamic efficiency

In a context where the search for maximum aerodynamic efficiency is an obsession, the Aerosensor emerged, an innovative device that uses a combination of sensors and power data to calculate the cyclist’s CdA (drag coefficient). This device promises to perform immediate testing and provides instant feedback, allowing adjustments to equipment settings and the cyclist’s position.

How the Aerosensor works

The device is made up of two separate sensors, one that measures airflow and aerodynamic drag, and a secondary sensor that measures the pilot’s position. By combining data about airflow and the rider’s position with data from a power meter, the software can calculate the rider’s drag coefficient.

For those looking for a brief explanation of what exactly the Aerosensor is, its creator, Dr. Garood, explains:

“Aerosensor works by combining data from a cyclist’s speed sensor and power meter with their own airflow measurements to accurately calculate the coefficient of aerodynamic drag (CdA).”

Lidl-Trek manager explains choice of equipment

Koen de Kort, Team Support Manager at Lidl-Trek, said: “At Lidl-Trek, we are working hard to improve and grow. We want to be the best and that means looking for innovations, discovering the smallest details that can make a difference and thinking ahead of our competitors. For us, that is the Aerosensor.”

“In the Training Camp in December and what is happening at the moment, we made the most of the Aerosensors technology with a lot of testing, both with road bikes and Time Trials”.

“The Aerosensor technology will also be useful in the context of the race, providing us with information on wind speed, as well as support in defining the pacing strategy for time trials”, concluded de Kort.
