Bontrager appears to be developing a new collection of road shoes, as evidenced by Lidl-Trek’s Jacopo Mosca, who was spotted wearing an as-yet-unreleased model during the Tour Down Under.
The models in question were initially shown by Tim Declercq, in an Instagram post and have now been seen in competition for the first time, standing out for presenting some new technologies.
Unlike other Bontrager sneakers, this one features a mesh construction, providing lightness, as revealed by the British website GCN. Numerous small holes have been incorporated along the top and side of the foot, aiming to offer ventilation, something very important in the Tour Down Under, where temperatures often exceed 30º C.
Because they are made of fabric, the shoes also have a one-piece construction, functioning like a sock. Small strips of added material, inscribed with Metnet, on the outside are then joined together using what appear to be Boa Li2 dials to tighten everything together.
Finishing the design, the shoe’s tongue bears the ‘RSL’ logo, suggesting that the shoe will be in the same line as other products in the Trek line, which bear the same name, such as the brand’s RSL saddles, handlebars and wheels.
The model does not yet have a release date. However, sales are expected to start in the European summer, just before the Tour de France.
