Lorenzo Milesi leaves the DSM-Firmenich team to embark on a new journey with Movistar. A provisional agreement has been reached between his former and new teams, facilitating the transition. At 21 years old, the Italian was tied to the Dutch team until the end of 2025.
Under 23 World Champion
After a year in the development team, Milesi made his WorldTour debut this season, leaving a notable mark. In September, he surprised everyone by winning the Under 23 Time Trial World Championship. In the road race, he secured the fifth position after a day of attacks.
The Italian made his final breakthrough at the Vuelta a España 2023. In the team’s initial time trial, affected by rain, he was the first from his team to cross the finish line. The time set by the DSM-Firmenich team at the start of the day turned out to be the fastest.
Milesi was, therefore, the first cyclist to wear the red leader’s jersey. However, his debut in a Grand Tour did not end as expected. The young Italian fell early in the sixth stage and could not continue due to hand pain.
This fall, there were already rumors about an early departure from DSM-Firmenich, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
INEOS Grenadiers was reportedly interested in Milesi. According to new information, Movistar won the battle and is expected to introduce him as a new rider for the team in 2024.
