Thymen Arensman expressed mixed feelings after achieving fifth place in the Volta ao Algarve. Although dissatisfied with his performance in the Time Trial, he expressed satisfaction with his performance in the two mountain stages. The statements were made by him on his social networks.
“I am happy with my performances in the mountain finishes”, declared Arensman, who obtained eighth and ninth place, respectively, in the Alto da Foia and Alto do Malhão stages”.
“I had a good winter and we planned well with (trainer) Dajo Sanders, but you never know how things will go in racing. I’m happy to see that the training is bearing fruit. Let’s keep building from here.”
The performance in the Time Trial disappointed Arensman
On the other hand, the Dutch cyclist’s performance in the Time Trial on Saturday, where the cyclist finished in 12th position, 1min and 05 seconds behind Evenepoel, left something to be desired. “I’m disappointed with my Time Trial performance, but the only person I can blame is myself,” he wrote.
“It felt like I was pedaling with just one leg on the time trial bike. I should have gone to the physio after my fall on the third day as the gluteal muscle was completely blocked.”
“Thanks to the INEOS Grenadiers team, I was able to recover to compete on Sunday. This will be taken into account in future competitions.”
He concluded the post by thanking his teammates and coaching staff for their collective effort. “It was a great first competition of the year, let’s keep it up”, concluded Arensman.
