Some high-profile transfers have taken place during this winter season on the cycling World Tour. One example is the transfer of Primoz Roglic, who left the Jumbo-Visma team for BORA-hansgrohe, while Cian Uijtdebroeks did the opposite. This includes the controversial Gianni Moscon, who signed a contract for the season with Soudal Quick-Step.
2 years in Astana Qazaqstan Team without wins
“I was left out in every race and dropped out in many because I was never at the same level,” Moscon told Sporza. “I contracted corona before my first race in Astana. In my second season I broke my collarbone at the Tour Down Under.
No recovery
“Shortly after resuming training, I had to start competing in big races, again and again. I didn’t have time to fully recover and get back to normal with training. It wasn’t the doctors’ fault. They pressured me not to run. The problem was with the team.”
“I don’t want to put the responsibility on the team now. Maybe Astana didn’t have enough cyclists to cover the entire calendar. But if I were the team boss, I wouldn’t use cyclists to fill vacancies in the main races, where you expect results.”
“I would spare the athlete a little and then send him first to smaller races where he could win. If you look at my calendar for the last two years, you will see that I have only participated in important races. Always with a lot of tasks.”
