Geraint Thomas does not hide his motivation for the Vuelta a España 2023.

Geraint Thomas is ready for the Vuelta a España 2023. Despite a modest performance at the beginning of the year, he showcased remarkable form throughout the three weeks of the Giro d’Italia. With this perspective, he emerges as a strong contender to secure a place on the podium during the upcoming Vuelta.

“I’m really looking forward to returning to La Vuelta. I hope it’s better than 2015 – which was horrible – it wasn’t the most enjoyable Grand Tour I’ve ever done,” Thomas stated in a press release. “I’m going there to try and get the best possible result for the team. It will be good to go for some stages and the GC as well, and see how I am after the first half of the race.”

In preparation for the Vuelta, Geraint Thomas took part in a few competitions. He joined the Tour de Pologne, providing support for his INEOS Grenadiers teammates. Surprisingly, he secured a third-place finish in the challenging final time trial. Additionally, he competed in the World Championship, where he achieved the tenth position in the individual time trial.

“It’s going to be a tough field: Ayuso is one of the top young cyclists at the moment; Remco as well, Roglic too, and possibly Almeida, so that’s the entire Giro podium. Jonas (Vingegaard) is apparently going too, so it will be a star-studded lineup.”

“That’s what motivates you as well, knowing that all the best will be there, so the goal is to do your best and hopefully come out on top; but it’s definitely going to be tough,” concluded the British rider.
