The former winner of the Vuelta a España (2013), Chris Horner, 52 years old, is still present in the world of cycling, through his YouTube channel where he recently analyzed the programs of Jonas Vingegaard, Primoz Roglic, Remco Evenepoel and Tadej Pogacar for the Tour de France.
Tadej Pogacar will have the most difficult program
“He is also the only one of the four to start the Volta a Catalunya, but because he is also competing in the Giro d’Italia, he has the most difficult program on paper.”
Primoz Roglic with many competitions against the main competitors
However, Horner stresses that Pogacar’s program will not include many competitions against his competitors. That honor is reserved for his compatriot Roglic. “At Paris-Nice, he will compete against Evenepoel and at Itzulia Basque Country and Critérium du Dauphiné, Jonas Vingegaard will be in contention.”
“However, these are the only three races he competes in, so he competes against at least one of the three in each race. But if he can’t win even once against Vingegaard or Evenepoel before the Tour, then he will start the Tour with little confidence.”
Primoz Roglic should win two competitions before the Tour de France
“This is extremely difficult mentally, but at the same time winning with a new team will be really good. Personally, I think he will win at least two, even all three.”
“Evenepoel has a lot of room to win races before heading to Itzulia against Vingegaard and Roglic, especially as he will take part in the Volta ao Algarve and the classics.”
“As for Jonas Vingegaard, the pressure could be eased a little by big wins from Wout Van Aert if the Dane doesn’t perform well. Plus, he will be racing the Gran Camino and Tirreno-Adriatico against none of the other three, so he can also gain confidence.”
