Samuel Leroux surprised and won the 4th stage of the French competition, after a fierce dispute between the 4 members of the day’s escape. Dries de Bondt (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) finished in second place and Stefan Bisseger (EF Education EasyPost) finished the stage in 3rd place.
Biggest success in Leroux’s career
The 4th stage of the Étoile de Bessèges took place this Saturday around Méjannes-le-Clap, with the finish taking place 1km after the last climb of the day, the coast of Tharaux (4.4km at 4.7%).
An unexpected scenario occurred, with the success of the day’s escape, at the end of the 250 kilometers that had to be covered. Four of the day’s five fugitives resisted the peloton’s attack, which watched from afar as Frenchman Samuel Leroux had the biggest victory of his career and raised his arms.
The 29-year-old Van Rysel-Roubaix cyclist beat Belgian Dries De Bondt (Décathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team), Swiss Stefan Bissegger (EF Education-EasyPost) and Norwegian Jonas Iversby Hvideberg (Uno-X Mobility) in the sprint.
The lead in the general classification of the Etoile de Bessèges, however, remains with Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek), who finished the race alongside the main group.
