Director of BORA-Hansgrohe complains about the lack of collaboration in the Down Under Classic: “why didn’t they help?”

Sam Welsford’s debut for BORA-Hansgrohe at the Down Under Classic, this Saturday, did not go as expected. The Australian sprinter finished the race in 15th place on the day.

Why didn’t they help?

“We did our best. There were, I would say, six teams that did not participate, (in the escape chase) and that had a sprinter in the group. The question remains: why didn’t they compete, why didn’t they collaborate”, complained Bernhard Eisel, sporting director at BORA-hansgrohe, to the British website GCN, after the race.

“We did our best and then we ran out of support. If they are satisfied with racing for seventh place, then… There are always surprises at the Down Under Classic, however, that has never happened, making the race quite peculiar I would say.”

“They know they didn’t do anything wrong, they didn’t do anything wrong and they are happy with the result and the teamwork. If there is no help from other teams, this will be the result of the race”, concluded former sprinter and now BORA-Hansgrohe sporting director, Bernhard Eisel.
