Cycling World Champion is diagnosed with Cancer, cyclist is a legend of British sport

Sir Chris Hoy, 17-time World Track Champion and six-time Olympic Champion, revealed his cancer diagnosis in an Instagram post, where he says he is optimistic, positive and surrounded by love.

The 47-year-old Scottish cyclist, who retired in 2013 after an incredible career that included Olympic titles in 2004, 2008 and 2012, has announced that he is currently receiving treatment, including chemotherapy.

An Unexpected Shock

“I received the news last year. It was a huge shock, as I had not shown symptoms until then,” Hoy wrote. “I am currently receiving treatment, including chemotherapy, which, fortunately, is going very well. I would like to thank all the medical professionals for their incredible help and care,” he added.

Maintaining Privacy and Optimism

In his statement, Hoy explained that he had hoped to keep this information private for the sake of his young family, but unfortunately the news was leaked to the public. “While I appreciate any support, I would like to handle this privately,” he said.

However, Hoy has tried to focus on the positive and his ongoing work schedule ahead of the Paris Olympics this summer. He did not disclose the type of cancer being treated.

“I am optimistic, positive and surrounded by love, for which I am truly grateful. As you can imagine, the last few months have been extremely difficult. However, I currently feel fine – I am working, cycling and living my life normally”, he concluded.

The British cycling icon added that he is looking forward to getting down to business and enjoying himself, especially with the Paris Olympic Games in July approaching. “I can’t wait to dive in, have fun and share it all with you,” he concluded.
