UCI President David Lappartient has confirmed that cycling Esports events will feature at the 2025 Esports Olympic Games in Abu Dhabi. In an interview with cyclingweekly, Lappartient, who is President of the IOC Esports and Gaming Liaison Group and a member of the IOC general assembly, said that “the Esports Olympic Games will start in 2025 and will include cycling Esports.
Zwift or MyWhoosh: Who will host the events?
While many expect Zwift to be the chosen platform to host these events, as it was chosen to host the cycling events for the Olympic Esports Series taking place in Singapore in June 2023, it is not yet confirmed.
A possible rival to Zwift is the MyWhoosh platform, with whom Lappartient recently signed a deal to make them the main virtual cycling platform partner of the UCI Road World Championships until 2026.
MyWhoosh has also received substantial funding and support from the UAE government, and the fact that the event is being held in Abu Dhabi could greatly influence the choice of platform.
