Mathieu van der Poel started his 2023 Tour de France on this custom-painted Canyon Aeroad CFR. The white bike is one of the three bicycles the Dutch superstar used in France this year.
“MvdP White”
Since then, Van der Poel has switched to his red Canyon Aeroad after racing with this one and another bike with a special edition honoring Raymond Poulidor in the first week of the Tour de France. While understated, this all-white paint job, officially dubbed ‘MvdP White’ by Canyon, is beautiful in a subtle way.
Integrated cockpit is a trend in the World Tour
The integrated cockpit of van der Poel’s bike has virtually no spacers. While not as extreme as some cyclists’ setups, van der Poel couldn’t resist the urge to lower his body for greater aerodynamic gains.
In terms of measurements, van der Poel’s Canyon CP0015 cockpit has a stem length of 11 cm and a width of 40 cm. With many cyclists in the Tour de France opting for handlebar widths of 36 cm or 38 cm, this can be considered a relatively conservative setup.
Modified Seat Post from Milan-San Remo
Van der Poel’s bike features an exposed seat post clamp on the top tube, right in front of the seat post. A similar design is used on many top aerodynamic road bikes.
This design differs from what is seen in the existing consumer version of the Aeroad and the bike he used in the victory at Milan-San Remo.
Van der Poel’s bike features a Shimano-dominant setup, covering both group components and wheels. It includes the ubiquitous Shimano Dura-Ace R 9200 Di2, with van der Poel opting for 54/40t chainrings.
Van der Poel’s bike at the Grand Départ in Bilbao featured Shimano Dura-Ace C50 wheels, fitted with a pair of 28c Vittoria Corsa Pro TLR tires.
Bike Weight
The Bike Radar website weighed the bike, and it falls short of being the desire of those who prioritize UCI limits. With the complete team equipment, it reached 7.94 kg.
