Mathieu van der Poel will be riding an all-white Canyon in 2024, thanks to his World Champion title. However, the other members of the team will probably use the same model for the rest of the season, but in purple, like the one presented by the young German Maurice Ballerstedt, in the last Tour Down Under.
Model was presented in 2020
The Aeroad CFR was introduced by Canyon at the end of 2020 as the German brand’s lightest road bike ever. The bike was created in conjunction with the aerodynamics experts at Swiss Side, with each tube reportedly optimized to reduce drag. The bike is also more than 200 grams lighter compared to Canyon’s previous model, the CF SLX.
Matching Alpecin’s kit, the team’s Aeroad is a stunning mix of purple and blue, as Canyon have chosen to keep things simple,
Shimano Dura-Ace Group
The bike features a Shimano Dura-Ace R9200 Di2 groupset and power meter, with 54/40 discs and a 12-speed cassette, a suitable choice for the relatively flat terrain that lay ahead in the next stage. The bike also featured Shimano Dura-Ace road pedals.
Selle Italy saddle
The team uses Selle Italia saddles – the model in the photo is a Selle Italia Flite Boost Pro Team SuperFLow Kit carbon saddle, with Superflow technology from the Italian brand, which aims to reduce physical limitations caused by prolonged pressure on the perineal region.
Shimano Dura-Ace C50 Wheels
The bike had Shimano Dura-Ace C50 wheels with 28mm Vittoria Corsa Pro tires. For the flatter, faster sprint stages, the team has been known to use the deeper C60s.
Canyon’s exclusive Aeroad cockpit
The team also uses Selle Italia handlebar tape on the Canyon’s Aeroad cockpit. This cockpit is the only one that can change the width between 390 and 430 mm. The stem also allows the rider to adjust the height of the handlebars without cutting into the steerer tube.
