Swiss Stefan Küng, who has a chance of medaling at the Summer Olympics and currently rides Wilier’s Turbine SLR, suggested that a new time trial bike from the Italian brand could be launched before the Games in Paris
New Project Details
After being asked by the British website GCN whether the new bike would be faster than the previous ones, Küng smiled and briefly revealed details, indicating that “something new is coming”. At the moment the team uses the Wilier Triestina Turbine SLR model in time trials.
“Until the summer, there is a new project we are working on. It will be something good. That’s all I can say for now. More details will be released later”, commented the cyclist.
Partnership with Wilier
“They wanted a team that was really good at innovation and development and I think that’s why the partnership with Groupama FDJ works really well. It’s a good relationship and it’s moving in the right direction,” added Küng.
New Cash Contract?
The issue of Küng’s contract was also raised. He has an agreement with the Groupama-FDJ team until the end of 2025, but he can already listen to offers for next year and leave his current team if the right offer appears. However, for now, the cyclist’s focus is solely on the current races and he seems content with his current team.
“I feel really good where I am right now, so I’m focusing on the moment and not so much on other things. If I have everything I need, I see no reason to look elsewhere,” Küng told GCN.
To prepare for the debut of the new bike and the start of racing, Küng underwent intensive preparation over the winter to recover from a fall he suffered last year.
“Winter preparation went smoothly. The end of the season wasn’t what I expected, with an accident and an injury, but the rehabilitation went very well and the whole winter preparation went smoothly, so I’m happy to start racing this week”, concluded Küng.
