Lotte Kopecky shone on Saturday night at the European Track Cycling Championships in Apeldoorn. In an impressive span of just 19 minutes, she won the championships in the points race and the elimination race. “What can I say?” The Belgian could hardly believe what she had achieved.
Points races
In the points race, competitors must complete 100 laps, totaling 25 kilometers. Every 10 laps, there is the opportunity to accumulate points at the finish line. Kopecky demonstrated his ability by achieving the maximum score. Norwegian Anita Yvonne Stenber and Czech Jarmila Machacova won the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Elimination Race
There wasn’t much time to celebrate the European title, as the elimination race was scheduled just 7 minutes later. In this race, the last cyclist is eliminated every two laps. And the Belgian did the impossible: he also won gold in the elimination.
