Simon Yates (Team Jayco AlUla) won the competition with a great performance in the 5th and final stage, with the difficult climb to Skyviews of Harrat Uwayrid. Yates overcame William Junior Lecerf (Soudal QuickStep) and Finn Fisher-Black (UAE Team Emirates) in the tight final race.
Challenging final ascension
The AlUla Tour reserved a challenging final stage for the competitors. The stage was an intimidating 2.8km climb with an average gradient of 12.5% over the last 15km, followed by a 9km plateau to the finish line at Skyviews of Harrat Uwayrid.
William Junior Lecerf opens the attacks
1.2 km from the top of the last climb, after the group was reduced to the three winners, plus Rafal Majka, Lecerf made an aggressive attack. However, Fisher-Black managed to catch up just below the top, where he claimed three bonus seconds. Lecerf and Yates also received bonuses.
The race climaxed in the final seven kilometers, where Yates’ strategy shone. With Rafal Majka alongside him, Yates took the opportunity to widen the gap between himself and the pursuers. However, with the distance shrinking with every kilometer covered, tension was high for the four leaders.
Yates ended up demonstrating his superiority by sprinting, with 300 meters to go to the finish line, surpassing Lecerf and Fisher-Black, and confirming victory in the AlUla Tour.
