The Swiss company Assos has just presented the Skinsuit called “Fenoq”, thinking about the Paris Olympics. The new equipment is expected to be used by the Swiss national team.
Equipment now available
Although the product was recently announced for the first time on the company’s website, it has been available since the beginning of the year, in accordance with Olympic rules.
The guidelines stipulate that any equipment used must be commercially available by January 1 of the Olympic year. The Fenoq skinsuit has already been tested by professionals on the track, complying with UCI 1.3.006 regulation, and was probably also tested on the road by the Swiss team.
Company keeps secret about new technology
Assos doesn’t share many details about the new jumpsuit on its website, which is no surprise considering the focus on the Olympic Games. Like other brands that design products for competition, Assos prefers not to reveal its secrets.
The brand has also leaned on other technologies such as body mapping, as each garment is completely tailored to an athlete and “is cut and sewn for the cyclists’ unique physiques and riding positions.”
Exclusivity for any cyclist
Custom clothing for athletes is nothing new, but this extends to anyone who buys Fenoq. Assos says it has created a platform that will allow you to customize the jumpsuit for any customer. Most of the current aerodynamic gains achieved with clothing come from the specific texture of the fabric, and this is the last area of development cited by Assos.
Value proportional to the technology used
As expected, an Olympic quality product is not cheap. According to the Assos website, prices for the Fenoq start at £5,670/€6,500/$7,040. There is also another more accessible outfit, Feno, classified as “made to measure”, suggesting that there will be no specific adjustments for this one. The starting price for Feno is significantly lower, starting at £2,180/€2,500/$2,710.
