Jonas Vingegaard, star of Visma-Lease a Bike, stated in an interview with the French magazine Top Vélo that he has no hobbies other than cycling and also made great revelations about the bikes that the team makes available to him.
Life in cycling is not easy
As he has stated on other occasions, when he is not doing something related to the bike, the Dane spends all his time with his family.
“I don’t have any big hobbies other than cycling. I spend my free time with my family. I try to spend as much time as possible with my wife and daughter.”
“Life in cycling is not easy, even when you have many victories (laughs) and luckily I can count on my two girls.”
Favorite bike
The two-time Tour de France champion talks about the bikes he usually uses and which he prefers. “I use two bikes, the Cervélo S5 and the Cervélo R5. Although the S5 is very aerodynamic and rigid, my preference is obviously for the R5, which is perfect for me.”
“It’s easier to use, ultra-rigid and ultra-light. I especially like it on mountain routes, where it’s in its habitat. It’s my ideal bike.”
Regarding whether it is more important for the bike to be stiffer or weigh less, he makes it clear that the importance lies in balance: “For me, one is not more important than the other, but both are essential. These two characteristics are what interests me most.”
Low and medium wheels are preferred
When asked about his favorite wheel profile, Jonas Vingegaard reveals that he is not an expert:
“I use the 40/44mm profile most often, but I’m not an expert on large wheels. I definitely prefer low wheels over high wheels, even though you shouldn’t leave aerodynamics aside, which is why I also use the S5 with high wheels in certain races.”
“As far as tires are concerned, if I was previously reluctant to switch from tubulars to Tubeless, I must say that I am finally a fan of Tubeless tires. They are almost as light, but much more efficient and comfortable thanks to the lower pressures. I use a 28mm most of the time.”
Preferred parts group
Speaking of groupsets, once again Vingegaard clearly announces his preference for the Sram that has been installed on his bike since 2023. “I find using the Sram Red groupset to be clearly more intuitive than the Shimano that I previously used for several years. I like switching left and right. Finally, the group is a little lighter and significantly easier for our mechanics to assemble.”
