The Emonda, Trek’s current lightweight bicycle, is now approaching its fourth year of production, suggesting it might be due for an update. Introduced in 2014 as the brand’s third road bike, the Emonda joined the ranks of the Madone and Domane, forming a trio of names based on anagrams.
The bike had an update in 2020, with the addition of some aerodynamic features. Now, apparently, the frame will undergo more changes, as one of the main cyclists of the Lidl-Trek team, Giulio Ciccone, was recently seen on a frame that looks very much like a new Emonda.
In the photos leaked on the Weight Weenies forum, it’s possible to see that the frame maintains the same design as the old Emonda, but with the Isoflow seat post for better aerodynamic optimization, as well as a reduction in total weight.
Rear derailleur modification
Although it’s hard to discern from the images, it seems that the new Emonda will also feature a universal SRAM UDH rear derailleur hanger. This inclusion might indicate a shift in the industry toward a direct mount for SRAM groups in the future. The benefit of this is a much crisper and precise gear shift, as the derailleur is structurally attached to the rear wheel hub via the thru-axle.
