here were no surprises as Slovenian cyclist Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) claimed victory in the 45th edition of the Vuelta a Burgos by maintaining his lead on the fifth and final day. The 160 km stage started in Golmayo’s city of Soria and ended at Lagunas de Neila.
Roglic, who donned the purple leader’s jersey after winning the third stage, concluded the last day in the best possible way on Saturday, securing the top spot on the Vuelta a Burgos podium. The runner-up positions were filled by Russian cyclist Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora-Hansgrohe) and British rider Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates).
he victory in the last stage was achieved at the finish in Lagunas de Neila (7 km at 8.5%) with Primoz Roglic himself leading the charge, ahead of Adam Yates and Aleksandr Vlasov. Australian Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates) secured the fourth place.
Yates, propelled by Vine, set the pace, and Roglic began to struggle at 2.5 km from the finish. It was then that Yates launched an attack, leaving his teammate behind and narrowing the contest down to the three cyclists.
During the steepest part of the climb, Roglic managed to find his rhythm and allowed Vine to catch up with the leading group as they passed the 1km mark, which had gradients of 14% incline. However, it proved to be too much for the Australian, and the stage once again boiled down to the three favorites.
Yates attempted to surge ahead in the last bend, but the Slovenian was convinced that the stage victory and the overall classification were meant for him. In just a few meters, Roglic overtook Yates to triumph in Neila.
