Jonas Vingegaard can choose between the Cervélo S5 (aero) and Cervélo R5 (lightweight), depending on the terrain of each stage. The main difference between the 2022 and 2023 bikes lies in the groupsets and wheels.
In 2023, Team Jumbo-Visma switched sponsors from Shimano to SRAM and Reserve Wheels. Jonas Vingegaard used a SRAM Red eTap AXS 12-speed groupset instead of the Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 (R9200) and Reserve Wheels instead of Shimano wheels. Reserve Wheels is a sister brand of Cervelo.
1x Chainring in the First 4 Stages
Jonas Vingegaard used the aerodynamic Cervélo S5 in the first four stages of the 2023 Tour de France. He used a 1X front chainring with a 10-36T rear cassette.
At first glance, Vingegaard’s Cervélo S5 frame set seems the same as the one he took to victory in last year’s Tour de France, but there are some subtle differences.
The stars and the “Ride Your Dreams” motif are also present on the Jumbo-Visma Tour de France jersey, in collaboration with the Dutch cycling brand AG and Efteling, a theme park in the Netherlands.
The design is based on the concept of the power of dreams, and after winning the 2022 Tour de France, the team expresses the hope of inspiring new generations to pursue their dreams.
Special Bike for the Final Stage
For the final stage, keeping with tradition, Vingegaard had a custom yellow Cervélo S5, but this year, the frame featured the word ‘Jaunas’ on the seat tube, ‘jaune’ which means ‘yellow’ in French.
The top tube also featured a motif highlighting Vingegaard’s achievement and the numbers 22 and 23, clearly referring to the two years in which the Danish rider won the Tour de France.
