Rémi Cavagna is leaving Soudal Quick-Step after 7 years

Rémi Cavagna will join Movistar Team next year. The French cyclist, who has competed for Soudal Quick-Step and its previous teams over seven seasons, has signed a three-year contract with the Spanish team.

Cavagna made his professional debut in 2017 with Patrick Lefevere’s team, coming from Klein Constantia, which was the development team of the current Soudal Quick-Step.

Known as the “TGV de Clermont-Ferrand” by fans, he secured his first professional victory in 2018 at Dwars Door West-Vlaanderen and added ten more victories in the following seasons, including successes in the Vuelta a España, Tour de Romandie, and the Tour de Pologne. He also won the French National Time Trial Championship twice. In 2023, he notched up 5 individual victories.

“It’s a new challenge for me,” says Cavagna on his future employer’s website. “It’s been seven wonderful years at Quick-Step, during which I’ve loved my profession and learned a lot, but I felt I needed to make a change to reach my full potential. Like Quick-Step, Movistar is a team that’s part of the history of cycling, with such important riders who have raced for the team.”

“I’ll discover the northern classics with the team, with that special atmosphere. I’m looking forward to hitting the cobbles with this group. On the other hand, as everyone knows, I’m a time trial specialist, and although I’ve been doing well in recent years, I felt something was missing.”

“I’m very proud to come here, hungry for success and ready to give my all for the team. Of course, you always want to win, but I also like to help my teammates achieve victories and build a great project,” concludes the 28-year-old cyclist.
