Tom Pidcock admits to feeling pressure from the INEOS Grenadiers to win the Tour de France

Tom Pidcock is one of the most versatile cyclists in the world today. A more than capable climber, an athlete who descends like no one, and a winner in multiple disciplines, it’s also clear that the INEOS Grenadiers has big plans for the Briton.

Tom Pidcock’s downhill skills are truly remarkable.

The INEOS Grenadiers have confidence in Pidcock’s potential to become a champion in Grand Tours. Given the team’s recent struggles in finding a consistent leader for the general classifications, there is increasing pressure within the team for Pidcock to fully focus on Grand Tours.

“Maybe I have to specialize in one discipline if I want to win the Tour, but I know the team will get the best out of me when I’m happy. That’s why I love other disciplines,” Pidcock said on the Red Bull Just Ride podcast. “Of course, I want to win the Tour de France one day, but patience and preparation are huge.”

Team pressure

“There is the element (of team pressure), and I knew that when I committed long-term to the team. I want it too, but in my way. I want to achieve all the things I believe I can achieve,” he continues.

“At the moment, I’m not ready to win the Tour de France next year. There have to be more stages where I can get things in different disciplines,” concludes the British rider.
