Oscar Rodriguez concluded his journey with Movistar Team by participating in his last race at the Tour of Guangxi. During an interview with the Marca newspaper, he shared his experiences with the team and discussed the challenges that occurred in the challenging year of 2023, marked by a serious crash in the Giro d’Italia. It’s worth noting that he will compete for INEOS Grenadiers in the next year.
What is your assessment of the season?
It was a somewhat strange season. I started racing in Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, two races in the desert. Then I had a break where I went to high altitude to arrive in good shape at the Giro. In Italy, I had that accident, and then I had no choice but to recover well to finish.
You had a serious accident in the Giro, how was the fall and the recovery?
The fall was unfortunate, and I recovered with the support of my loved ones. From minute zero, they supported me a lot. Thanks to them, I am here, and I really wanted to get back on the bike.

Do you think we are in the best generation of cycling of all time?
I think so. It’s flying! I don’t know if it’s the food, bike quality, equipment… I think it’s a bit of everything. I have the feeling that we are more motorcycles than bicycles.
Among the best current cyclists, who stands out the most to you?
Evenepoel, for example. He is young and very ambitious. I would go with him!
