Another crazy day in this 110th Tour de France! The breakaway of the day took almost 100 kilometers to really happen, after numerous attacks and counter-attacks, one of them was the winner of this 12th stage in Belleville-en-Beaujolais, Ion Izagirre (Cofidis). But before that, the absolute favorites once again did not hesitate to join this relentless fight, offering a show at all times in this Grande Boucle. The yellow jersey Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) and his Slovenian rival Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) once again did not let go of each other, even though the big alpine battle begins on Friday on the slopes of the Grand Colombier.
Vingeaard spoke about this difficult stage after the 12th stage:
“Every day is full steam ahead, today again was full steam ahead. For you and for the spectators it must be very good to watch! But for us it was another very difficult stage in the end. As a result, the tiredness increases more and more, and we will see in the third week what that implies. I know the Grand Colombier, I have ridden there once. I am ready for a new battle tomorrow. I will do my best and we will see what happens,” concluded a smiling Jonas Vingegaard in a post-race interview. After the 12th stage of the 2023 Tour de France, the Dane is 17 seconds ahead of Tadej Pogacar in the general classification.
