Young phenomenon from UAE Team Emirates surprises by showing resignation: “it could have been better”

The winner of the Tour de l’Avenir tried his best to take the leader’s shirt from Stephen Williams in the final stage of Mount Lofty, but the Mexican proved unable to defeat the Brit. In a sprint contested by 3 cyclists, the Mexican had to recognize the superiority of Williams and Ecuadorian Jhonatan Narváez, who also finished ahead of him in the general classification.

Could have been better

“I tried and I’m happy with it,” Del Toro recalled his performance in a quick post-stage interview. “In my first experience it would have been better if I had won, but of course that is also good. Although it could have been even better. I’ve been trying to make up for lost time. And most importantly, I enjoyed my first WorldTour race.”

For Del Toro, this is just the beginning of a promising career. “It’s important to keep learning and give everything. You never know what to expect from cycling. But I know I’ll give it my all once I get on the bike. I did it again in this stage, but it ended up not being enough for victory. Better luck next time”, concluded Mexican Issac del Toro, just 20 years old.
