Wout van Aert won the Gravel Competition in Houffalize. The Belgian cyclist took part in his first event of this kind and clearly wasted no time. Van Aert rode solo to claim victory.
Before the race started, Van Aert was still cautious. “It’s the first time I’m doing a race like this. I’m curious to see how it goes. I have no idea how intensive it is, so I’ll have to take a look at the beginning,” he told the VTM network.
During the race, the Jumbo-Visma cyclist clearly felt comfortable. Van Aert attacked the peloton and rode solo to victory in Houffalize. In the end, Van Aert crossed the finish line in Houffalize with a lead of nine minutes! Daan Soete and Paul Voss finished on the podium. The Belgian will be at the start of the Gravel World Championship in October.
