Wout van Aert has opted for a rather limited schedule this European winter, with only eight Cyclocross competitions. The Belgian doesn’t hide that the focus is on the spring classics. He had previously indicated that he would decide later whether he would participate in the Cyclocross World Cup races in Zonhoven and Benidorm. However, Van Aert has now made a decision.
Benidorm World Cup
Van Aert will compete in the World Cup stage in Benidorm (January 21). By the way, he will have a training camp near the Spanish city with Visma-Lease a Bike. Mathieu van der Poel and Tom Pidcock are also expected to race on the Spanish coast. This should be the last showdown among the three big names in the discipline in 2024.
Victory in Superprestige Heusden-Zolder.
On Wednesday, Van Aert secured his second victory in Cyclocross competitions this season in Heusden-Zolder. “To have a good feeling after yesterday was tough, but it gives confidence,” he said in the post-race interview.
“I am very happy with how things are going. A win doesn’t mean as much as before, but it’s always good to have victories during the Christmas season.”
