After a triumph at the Muscat Classic earlier this year, Jenthe Biermans raised his arms once again today. Uphill sprints suit the Arkéa Samsic cyclist very well, as he passed Soren Kragh Andersen at the finish line.
Recall the finish:
“It’s my second win of the season and also the second of my career. It’s been a good season so far,” said Biermans in a post-race interview. “The fact that there was an attack in the middle of the race was good for me. It made the real sprinters a bit more tired.” The rain also made the race challenging, but overall, it was another day for the attackers, and everything worked out for Biermans.
“We already knew before the start that it would be a good finish for me. Slightly uphill, which suits me. In the end, I timed my effort perfectly. I’m very happy with this victory,” he continued, before explaining his winning move: “Kragh Andersen attacked very early. I stayed in his wheel and thought, I’ll finish third. But they hesitated a bit because it was a tough finish. In the final meters, I had an extra sprint in my legs and managed to pass them.”
“Tomorrow will be tougher for me, I think. I’ll focus on the finale. It will be on the limit, depending on how the general classification riders will race.”
