Os membros da fuga eram Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step), Damiano Caruso (Bahrain Victorious), Lewis Askey (Groupama-FDJ), Nico Denz (Bora-Hansgrohe), Jarrad Drizners (Lotto Dstny), Andreas Kron (Lotto Dstny), Andrea Piccolo (EF Education-EasyPost), Imanol Erviti (Movistar), Max Poole (DSM-Firmenich), Hugo Hofstetter (Arkéa Samsic), Paul Ourselin (Total Energies), Egan Bernal (INEOS Grenadiers), Julien Bernard (Lidl-Trek) e Lorenzo Germani (Groupama-FDJ).
Desde a primeira montanha de categoria 1, o Puerto de San Lorenzo, ficou claro que a fuga tinha uma boa vantagem sobre o pelotão principal, com mais de 10 minutos de diferença.
In the peloton, the expectation was for attacks, as this was the last stage with significant mountains in the Vuelta a España 2023.
During the first ascent of the final circuit at Puerto de la Cruz de Linares, Remco Evenepoel launched an attack against Max Poole (Team DSM-Firmenich), the last survivor from the initial breakaway. Evenepoel then embarked on a solo flight in pursuit of another victory in the Vuelta.
Meanwhile, the peloton was heading towards its final ascent at Puerto de la Cruz de Linares, where potential attacks could take place. However, that wasn’t the case. Jonas Vingegaard set a suffocating pace, preventing any kind of attack from gaining a significant advantage.
And Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quickstep) wins Stage 18 of the Vuelta a España!! Damiano Caruso (Bahrain Victorious) finishes in 2nd place, and Andreas Kron (Lotto Dstny) completes the podium in 3rd position.
