Big climbs are the hallmark of all editions of the Vuelta a España, and this edition is no different. They begin in the 8th stage, between Dénia and Xorret de Catí.
Starting from Dénia, the first 20km are flat, but after that, there are only two things to do: climb or descend. The Alto de Vall d’Ebo (7.9 km at 5.7%), the Puerto de Tollos (4.2 km at 5.6%), the Puerto de Benifallim (9.5 km at 4.9%), the Puerto de la Carrasqueta (10.9 km at 4.6%), and several uphill sections that don’t earn points for the King of the Mountains classification.
However, the best is saved for last. There will be 3.6 km at an average gradient of 11.4%, with a maximum of 22%. Once at the top, there’s a 2 km descent followed by 1 km of slight ascent to the finish line.
8th Stage (02.09) Dénia – Xorret de Catí (165 km).
