Vuelta a España 2023: Preview of Stage 16 and the Potential for Fresh Attacks

Another potential day for a battle on two fronts, between the breakaway, which is likely to occur, and the contenders for the general classification. The first 115 kilometers are mostly flat, allowing the breakaway to build a considerable lead over the peloton.

However, towards the end of the stage, a formidable wall emerges, compromising the chances of sprinters. On this climb, cyclists eager to challenge the capabilities of Jumbo-Visma will have their opportunity. The ascent to Bejes consists of two segments, spanning approximately 5 kilometers.

The first part covers about 1.6 kilometers at a 10.1% gradient, which is roughly the same for the second part of the two-kilometer climb. In between these two segments, there will be a relatively flatter section of about 1.5 kilometers where riders can catch their breath before concluding the stage.
