Although he was unable to do enough to maintain the overall lead at the Tour Down Under, 20-year-old Isaac del Toro limited his losses and warns that in tomorrow’s decisive stage, he will try to seek victory again.
Happy, even after losing the leader’s shirt
“I did my best and I’m very happy with it”, reflected the Mexican prodigy on UAE Team Emirates’ social media after the stage. “Today was my first real day of climbing at World Tour level and I’m pleased with how it went considering the company I was with.”
Finishing 8th on the Willunga Hill climb, del Toro is now 4th overall, just five seconds behind new race leader Stephen Williams. With one stage to go, del Toro believes there is still a chance of victory.
“The team helped me a lot and I enjoyed the atmosphere on the road wearing the leader’s jersey, an incredible feeling”, he concludes. “I will try to recover, relax and tomorrow I will try again.”
