The second stage of the Tour of Turkey was a challenging day, but the result was almost the same. Jasper Philipsen secured the victory in the second stage, increasing his lead in the race.
Initially composed of five riders, the breakaway in this 2nd stage of the Tour of Turkey lost strength on the major climb of the day (11.9 km at 4.9%), with the summit about 60 km from the finish. Leaving behind, Belgian Jacob Relaes (Tarteletto-Isorex) and Dutchman Wesley Mol (Bike Aid), only three riders remained at the front of the race, namely Italian Matteo Amella (Team Corratec-Selle Italia), Belgian Lennert Teugels (Bingoal WB), and Polish Artur Sowinski (Voster ATS Team).
While this trio had about a 1-minute lead over the peloton, Amella and Sowisnki left Teugels behind, 36 km from the finish. The Alpecin-Deceuninck team controlled the breakaway, and gradually, Matteo Amella and Artur Sowinski saw their advantage diminish. Just over 13 km from the final goal, they were caught by the peloton.
As expected, a massive sprint took place. The uphill finish made it quite challenging, but the race leader, Jasper Philipsen, was well-prepared and secured his second victory in two days, overtaking Cees Bol.
