Jay Vine achieved an impressive victory in the 7th stage of the Tour of Turkey after an extraordinary and long-distance solo attack that frustrated the sprinters.
With about 25 km to go, Jay Vine launched his attack, distancing himself from the peloton on the last climb of the day, hoping to strengthen his chances of winning the King of the Mountains title. The Australian cyclist reached the summit of the climb alone, accumulating the maximum possible points.
After the chaos of the descent on the previous day, where several crashes occurred, Vine chose not to take risks, maintaining a safe distance from the chasing peloton. The peloton was closing in, but with a flat final stage towards the finish line, Vine managed to consolidate his lead. Alexis Guerin was the closest rival, but the peloton still held onto their hopes. In the last kilometer, Vine faced difficulties, but his determination prevailed, allowing him to achieve an epic victory.
Despite the victory, the overall lead of the Tour of Turkey 2023 remains with Alexey Lutsenko of the Astana Qazaqstan Team.
