Mads Pedersen won the General Classification of the Tour de la Provence (his second GC victory of the year), even though he was unable to win in the third stage of the competition, which was marked by a high wind influence and won by Tom van Asbroeck(Israel Premier -Tech).
The peloton was divided into several groups of cyclists due to the strong winds. Even though this could have been worrying for overall leader Mads Pedersen, the Lidl-Trek team stayed together, in the main group with each split that formed.
An exciting end to the third stage
The pace was so intense in Pedersen’s group that the escape was soon swallowed up and, as they entered the last 10km, a group of 26 cyclists led the competition. At the finish it was a close race, but Tom van Asbroeck secured victory, with Sam Bennett second and Axel Zingle third.
