Tom Pidcock won the Shimano Mountain Bike Super Cup in the Spanish coastal town of La Nucia, after a great recovery race in what was the first of seven stages of this competition.
Pidcock started this Sunday’s race, wearing his rainbow jersey, which he won at last year’s World Championship. For a long time it didn’t look like he would be able to win, with Sam Gaze in the lead early on and building a good advantage.
Pidcock took a while to get going, but once the engine was started he closed the gap lap after lap. Towards the final lap Pidcock joined Gaze and quickly left him behind.
Next objective, Volta ao Algarve
So we could throw our hands up after a short mountain bike ride. After the weekend, Pidcock will return to riding his road bike and we will see him again at the Volta ao Algarve.
“I had a long Training Camp, so it was difficult to get into race rhythm”, analyzes Pidcock in a brief post-race interview.
“The content I cultivated came out in the end, I think. The explosive climbs were, however, difficult, but it is a great way to start the year.”
