Tom Pidcock demonstrated his excellent form during the opening weekend of his Cyclocross season. Even though he has only been competing for a few weeks, he is optimistic about making the most of the Christmas block period and aims to succeed in battles against Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert.
The goal is to compete with Van der Poel and Van Aert
“This is my goal: I want to try to win a race this season and compete with them during the Christmas period, like last year in Diegem. I hope for some of those scenarios this winter. That would be great,” said the British cyclist to the Wielerflits website after yesterday’s victory in Namur, Belgium.
On Saturday, he finished second behind the World Champion in Herentals, but it’s important to note that he never threatened Mathieu Van der Poel’s victory.
This Sunday, he had a modest start, followed by a mechanical failure that set him back. He managed to catch up with the peloton, except for Pim Ronhaar, who had a great performance and was only overtaken in the penultimate lap. “To what extent did I know him? Honestly, I had never raced against him, the way it happened today,” he said.
“Blue and black socks are rubbish,” he was asked about his constant change in sock colors, which caught the attention of some, concluding jokingly: “Blue and black socks are rubbish. And we’re changing sponsors next year, so I can wear a new pair for every race.”
