Mathieu van der Poel stood out as the main protagonist in the X2O Trophy Herentals, while Tom Pidcock also displayed a notable performance upon his return. The British cyclist secured the second position, trailing behind the world champion. “I’m somewhat surprised,” he expressed in a brief interview conducted after the competition.
Best first Cyclocross competition
“The second place is good; I’m happy. It was my best first Cyclocross. I don’t know why, but it was good,” Pidcock continued, half in English, half in Dutch. “I had to find my way a bit in the first two or three laps. Slowly but surely, I made my way to the front.”
Pidcock will also start in Namur on Sunday. Does that suit him even better? “I think so; I always ride well there. I love that track. I hope that after today, I’m in a good position and can ride well tomorrow.”
“But we’re already at the end of the season. As I said before the race, I want to focus on the road season. I’m here and doing a few races, for myself and for the fans. I’ll enjoy it, but the World Cup isn’t free. It’s one hundred percent certain that I won’t participate in the World Championships this year.”
