Tom Pidcock has organized a very compact Cyclocross calendar this winter, and his campaign is about to conclude with competition in Benidorm this weekend. However, we won’t have to wait long to see him back in road competition, as his debut for this season has been confirmed.
The former cyclocross world champion’s winter calendar, which was already reduced, was recently shortened further when Pidcock had to skip several races due to health issues he faced.
Return to training after break
“It was a shame to lose races, but it was the right thing to do,” the INEOS Grenadiers star told British website GCN. “I wasn’t feeling well, so it was time to reset. I’ve been completely focused on my health for the last two weeks and now I’m in Spain and back training.”
This weekend in Benidorm, he is expected to end his Cyclocross campaign. “I’m happy to be feeling well again. I don’t have a specific goal for Benidorm, but I’m going to enjoy the race, the sun and the big crowds”, he predicts.
Road season starts after mountain bike race
After the Spanish stage of the Cyclocross World Cup, road racing is once again the focus of the 24-year-old, who will start the season at the Volta ao Algarve (February 14th to 18th), but not before a quick stop at the Mountain biking.
The Brit is expected to compete on February 11 at the Shimano Supercup Massi La Nucía in Spain, where Pidcock will be able to show off his rainbow stripes as MTB (BTT) world champion.
“I will probably race my mountain bike on February 11th, before traveling to the Volta ao Algarve, and after that, I will probably follow a similar road program to last year”, concludes Pidcock.
