The transfer of Cian Uijdtdebroeks to Visma-Lease a Bike is under investigation by the UCI

The UCI is currently conducting a legal investigation into the transfer of Cian Uijtdebroeks to the Jumbo-Visma team, which, from 2024, will be known as Visma-Lease a bike. Tom Van Damme communicated this information to Het Laatste Nieuws. In addition to his role as the president of the Professional Cycling Council (PCC), Van Damme is involved in this process.

To facilitate a provisional transfer, it is essential to obtain signatures from the previous team (BORA-hansgrohe), the new team (Jumbo-Visma), and the UCI. At the moment, it seems that two of these parties have not yet formalized this process.

“The file is still being investigated by the legal department of the UCI. Only when they finish their work can the document be submitted to me for signature,” says the president of the PCC, Van Damme.

Supposed bullying may have other consequences

The UCI may have another issue on the table now that it has been discovered that Uijtdebroeks may have been bullied at BORA-hansgrohe. “If the bullying story is true, it is obviously concerning,” says Van Damme. “These facts should then be presented to the disciplinary commission. But did Uijtdebroeks report it himself? I don’t know,” concludes Tom Van Damme.
