The Spanish cyclist Lluis Mas did not renew with the Movistar team and has given himself a 3-week deadline to consider the possibility of retirement

After five seasons, the cyclist from Mallorca, Lluis Mas, announces his farewell from the Movistar team. At 34 years of age and with a wide range of experience, spanning from classic races to grand tours, the cyclist finds himself at a crossroads, eager for new opportunities, even though he knows that the moment of retiring from cycling may be approaching.

In a recent interview with the Spanish newspaper Marca, Lluis Mas recounted his career in the professional peloton and his plans for the future. “Fortunately, in 15 years (five of them with Movistar), I achieved everything I wanted in the professional peloton,” commented the cyclist, who has achieved numerous successes in his career.

Now, however, he is in search of a new project that appeals to him and offers him the calendar he desires. While he has not made an official statement, Mas is awaiting a response from a WorldTour team that could be crucial in deciding his future.

“They have to give me an answer. I haven’t given myself a concrete deadline, but more or less, if I don’t get a response from that team in three weeks… I will go another way,” warned the experienced cyclist. This search is not motivated by financial reasons, as Mas emphasized that “money is not a problem at the moment.”

Beyond professional cycling, Mas has other options, such as returning to his roots at Arabay Vas Team Illes Balears.

“It’s from my hometown. We have teams even up to under-23. It’s one of those personal projects I’d like to do if I leave the road, because I’m not going to leave competition. I want to do mountain bike races, marathons… Things I didn’t have permission to do before and now I could,” said Mas.

Additionally, the rider is also considering a possible career as a sports director, having completed the director’s course and aiming to reach level 3 of the UCI in the coming months. While it’s not an immediate exit, this option could be part of his future.
