After all the controversy regarding the signing of Cian Uiltdebroeks by Visma Lease a Bike, information emerges that Visma-Lease a Bike was also interested in Andreas Kron, who won a stage in the Vuelta a España last year. However, the Danish cyclist also had a contract.
Lotto-Dstny Manager Accuses
In a conversation with the Belgian channel RTBF, Lotto-Dstny manager Stéphane Heulot, who heads Kron, spoke about the actions of the Dutch team.
“As soon as you don’t respect a contract, you enter dangerous territory. We also had the case of Caleb Ewan, but it was different. We could have honored the contract if he wanted, but both parties agreed to the separation.”
Heulot mocks the manager of Visma-Lease a Bike, Richard Plugge, who is also the head of the Association of Professional Teams (AIGCP).
“If your president doesn’t respect the rules, it’s difficult to have confidence. They tried the same with us, with Andreas Kron. That’s annoying, and you’re not doing any favors to cycling.”
Plugge counters accusations
According to Plugge, the situation is different, he tells RTBF. “Kron contacted us and claimed there was a clause in his contract allowing him to leave if it was a WorldTour team. However, it became clear he was wrong. Either his team contested it. That’s why we withdrew.”
It’s worth noting that Lotto-Dstny is currently not part of the WorldTour.
